Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Sweep in Atlanta: What to Know First
DuraFlex chimney sweep in Atlanta typically runs $189 to $389 depending on flue condition, access, and how much creosote has built up since the last cleaning. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider, not a factory-authorized shop, which means we can be straight with you about what your liner actually needs instead of what a warranty checklist says. Most DuraFlex sweeps in Atlanta are done same-visit, and you’ll have a written price before anyone picks up a brush. If you own a DuraFlex liner system and you’re in Atlanta or the surrounding metro, call (762) 320-6525 and a live person will get you booked.
How DuraFlex Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
We work on DuraFlex liners every week across Atlanta, and certain issues show up again and again. Here’s what we actually see:
- Creosote glazing on DuraFlex 316L smooth-wall liners. The smooth interior of a 316L liner is great for draft, but it glazes faster than corrugated when Atlanta humidity cycles hot fires and damp shoulder seasons. Glazed creosote (the shiny, tar-like coating that forms inside the flue) won’t brush off with a standard sweep. We use rotary whip heads with nylon strands sized for smooth-wall liners, then follow with a camera check. This is the number one DuraFlex issue in Atlanta, and it’s almost always fixable in one visit.
- DuraFlex Pro connection band slippage after settling. Atlanta’s clay-heavy soil shifts with wet-dry cycles, and chimneys move a few millimeters with it. On DuraFlex Pro liners, the stainless connection bands can slip when the chimney settles, leaving a gap where flue gases escape into the chase. A sweep that includes a Level 2 camera inspection catches this before it becomes a carbon monoxide issue. We re-seat the band and document it with photos.
- DuraFlex Aluminum (the non-stainless line) pitting from acidic condensate. If someone installed a DuraFlex aluminum liner on a gas appliance and the condensate isn’t draining properly, you get pitting and pinholes. We see this most often on older Atlanta homes where the original terra cotta flue was relined for a gas furnace without a proper condensate drain. Aluminum liners can’t be repaired with a patch that lasts; we’ll tell you if it’s safe to continue using or if it’s time to replace with 316L stainless. We won’t upsell you, but we will show you the camera footage.
- Ripped or separated insulation mesh on DuraFlex insulated retrofit liners. The insulation wrap on a DuraFlex insulated liner can tear during installation or settle over time, exposing sections where the liner gets too cold and creosote condenses faster. In Atlanta’s winter temperature swings, that means uneven buildup: heavy creosote at the top of the flue, almost none at the bottom. A standard sweep misses the upper section if the tech doesn’t know what they’re looking for. We inspect the full liner length, not just the firebox.
- Improperly terminated caps letting water into the liner. DuraFlex liners should terminate with a proper top plate and cap designed for the liner diameter. When the wrong cap is used (or the cap rusts through), rainwater runs down the inside of the liner and mixes with creosote, creating a corrosive slurry that eats at the liner wall. During a DuraFlex sweep in Atlanta, we always check the termination. If the cap is failing, we’ll quote a replacement before it damages the liner itself.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Process
Here’s what happens when you book a DuraFlex sweep with Hadley Chimney Atlanta, from the first call to the final photo:
- 1
Call and book. A live person answers 24/7, asks about your chimney’s history, and confirms a tracked arrival window. No four-hour gaps.
- 2
Arrival and exterior check. Our uniformed tech walks the roofline, checks the cap, termination, flashing (the metal that seals where the chimney meets the roof), and any visible liner sections. Photos are taken before anything else happens.
- 3
Interior inspection and camera scope. If you haven’t had a recent camera inspection, we scope the DuraFlex liner first. A Level 1 inspection is included with a standard sweep, but for older installations or any symptoms (smoke backup, odd smells, draft problems), we recommend a Level 2 inspection to see the full liner from firebox to cap.
- 4
Written price before sweeping. Based on what we see, we quote the sweep and any recommended work in writing before we start. If it’s a sweep-only job, that’s what you’ll pay, no surprises.
- 5
The sweep itself. We use brushes and rotary heads sized for DuraFlex liners, sweep the full length, and remove creosote and soot (the fine black powder that coats the flue after wood fires) from the firebox, smoke chamber, and damper area. If a component needs repair, we’ll show you the camera images and quote it separately. We won’t start repair work without your sign-off.
- 6
After photos and the 365-Day Done Right Promise. You’ll receive before-and-after camera documentation of the liner, a digital invoice, and a written guarantee on any repair. If a repair fails within 365 days, we make it right with a free second visit. That’s the guarantee, not a promotion.

AfterWhat DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Costs in Atlanta
Here’s what we charge in the Atlanta market, in plain numbers:
| Service | Typical Price Range |
|---|---|
| Standard DuraFlex sweep (Level 1 inspection included) | $189 – $289 |
| Sweep with Level 2 camera inspection | $289 – $389 |

| Full liner replacement (316L stainless, installed) | $1,750 – $3,400 depending on flue height and access |
What moves the price on a DuraFlex job: liner height (a two-story chimney costs more than a single-story), the severity of glazed creosote, access to the roof, and whether we find connection band issues or termination problems during the scope. You’ll have a written estimate before any work starts, every time. Call (762) 320-6525 for an exact quote. Estimates are free.
Why Atlanta Homeowners Call Hadley Chimney Atlanta for DuraFlex Work
Half the homes we sweep in Atlanta have a liner we didn’t install, and DuraFlex is one of the most common we see. We know the failure points because we’ve documented them over thousands of sweeps across neighborhoods from Grant Park to Sandy Springs. But the reason people stay with us is simpler: we show you the photos. I’d rather show you a photo of the problem than talk around it. Soot and creosote don’t hide from a camera, and neither do bad repairs. If your DuraFlex liner needs attention, you’ll see it. If it doesn’t, we’ll tell you that too. We’re pragmatic about repair-vs-replace: if a sweep and a connection band fix gets you another five years, that’s what we recommend. If the liner is done, we’ll show you why. And if you have a different liner system from another brand like HeatShield or Gelco, our techs work on those too. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies across the board: written guarantee on every repair, free second visit if it fails.
FAQs
No. A professional chimney sweep does not void a DuraFlex liner warranty. In fact, regular sweeping is required by most manufacturer guidelines to keep the warranty valid. What can void a warranty is using harsh chemical cleaners or metal-bristle brushes that score the liner wall. We use nylon and poly-materials appropriate for smooth-wall stainless, and we document the liner condition with camera images before and after every sweep.
If you burn wood regularly during Atlanta’s heating season (roughly November through March), you should sweep once a year. If you burn only occasionally, every two years is usually fine. Atlanta’s humidity and temperature swings create a specific condition worth knowing about: damp shoulder seasons mean creosote forms faster than in drier climates, even with moderate use. If you notice any smoke backing up into the room or a strong smoky smell when the fireplace isn’t in use, call us at (762) 320-6525 sooner.
Not necessarily. A 316L stainless DuraFlex liner can last 20 to 25 years or more in Atlanta if it has been swept regularly and hasn’t had water intrusion. The real question is what a camera inspection shows: wall thickness, pitting, connection band integrity, and creosote glazing. If the liner is intact and the bands are seated, a sweep is often all you need. If we see pinholes or significant corrosion, we’ll quote a replacement and show you the images. We’ll never tell you to replace a liner on age alone.
Sometimes. If the tear is small and near the top of the flue, we can often re-wrap or patch the section in place. If insulation has settled significantly or the tear runs most of the liner length, it’s usually more cost-effective to pull and re-insulate as part of a liner replacement. Either way, we’ll show you the camera footage and give you a written price before we recommend anything.
For most standard sweeps in the Atlanta metro, we can schedule within a few days. Give us a call at (762) 320-6525 and a live person will give you the next available tracked window. We don’t do four-hour arrival guesses, and we won’t change the price once the tech is on the roof. The written price you get before the job is the price you pay.
